How lucky am I?

Look at the nature I get to see when I'm out and about working.  I feel like the luckiest person alive.  I am getting paid to do two of my favorite things, hanging out with dogs and seeing tons of wildlife.

Annual Letchworth Trip

My heart full, soul renewed.  I love our annual trip to the Grand Canyon of the East.  This year hubby had a fawn follow him while after his Mt. Bike broke down.  He returned the little thing back to where he first saw it.  We also saw a bear!  My first for the year, and first for Letchworth State Park.

Glaucomys volans

I have 4 young Flying Squirrels in rehab now.  Someone found them in their kitchen a week and a half ago. They were keeping them in a tiny cage and feeding them pecans.  People only mean well,  at least he finally contacted the Humane Society and they contacted me.   They are almost ready for release.  I am going to feed them well for about a month and then let them go on our property where I will leave them food for a few weeks.  Every time I think I'm going to quit rehabbing something like this happens.  I am needed in my community.

A Ten Day!

Today was a top ten day of birding in 2014 for me.  I set out on my daily hike with Monty and had no expectations, soon as I headed up the trail it was evident it was going to be a good day of birding!  The tree tops were full of Neotropical Wood Warblers!  Leafless trees made this a dream come true for us birders who wait years for perfect conditions to view the tiny warblers that love the tops of very tall trees.  Precious little gems of the forest. Species for the day: Yellow-rumped, Blackburnian, Northern Parula, Blackpoll, Black & White, Black-throated Blue, Black-throated Green, Worm Eating & Hooded. Ovenbird, Baltimore Oriole, Orchard Oriole, Northern Waterthrush, Pileated Woodpecker, Red-shouldered Hawk. I also heard Great Horned owl calling, young must be out of the nests!  I also watched in amazement as a Woodchuck climbed about 40 feet up in a tree.  I've never seen that before.  Nature is always full of incredible surprises.  You need to get out there to see them!  I have to add....I LOVE MY IPHONE.  Having my field guides in my pocket is the best thing ever!

So much fun!

I am seeing more wildlife and birds then ever before.  With my new business I am out and about most days of the week, and able to stop and bird along the way.  It has been amazing!  Today's quick trip to meet with a client, outside his house as we were chatting I look up and there is an Osprey winging over us.  On the way home I went looking for the Leusistic Red -taled hawk and I found his nest!  I am so happy right now.

Crepuscular Walk

I saw my first bats!  Lots of red efts out, and the Spring Peeper are out in force.  At home there are 4 male toads in my pond singing their little hearts out.
