Sedge Wren

New life bird for me today Sedge Wren. I went out birding to Oil City Road out in Pine Island a the Wallkill River National Refuge. There were a lot of other birders out there looking for it, including one of my Hawk Watch friends. Other nice birds were a Sand-hill Crane and a little Blue Heron, white phase.

Books to read....

I have started doing some reading about Ecopsychology. I find it so fascinating, wish that I could go back to college for a degree in it. I'd like to read the following books about Ecopsychology, but found that our library system doesn't have even one of them. I will have to purchase them one by one if I want to read them all. Like I don't have enough books already.

1.The Nature Principle: Human Restoration and the End of Nature-Deficit Disorder-Richard-Louv

2.Ecopsychology: Restoring the Earth, Healing the Mind - Theodore Roszak

3.My Name is Chellis and I'm in Recovery from Western Civilization - Chellis Glendinning

4.Listening to Nature: How to Deepen Your Awareness of Nature - Joseph Bharat Cornell

5.Communing with Nature: A Guidebook for Enhancing Your Relationship with the Living Earth - John L. Swanson

6.Our classroom is wild America: Trailside education in action - encounters with self, society, and nature in America's first ecology expedition school
by Michael J. Cohen

7.The World Peace University Field Guide to Connecting With Nature

8.Reconnecting With Nature by Michael J. Cohen

The day just got even better!!!!

Hairy Woodpeckers

The very best part of feeding the birds is when our resident parent birds bring their young to the feeders. This morning my gift was two juvenile Hairy Woodpeckers, a male and a female. Mom was busy feeding them.

Acadia National Park

Yesterday we returned from a glorious 9 day vacation in Maine. We were able to take the dogs and my mom and her hubby shared the cottage with my hubby and my son. The cottage was adorable and right on the ocean. The scent of salt and pine was intoxicating. Lots of hiking trails right off the road where we were staying. No need for me to get in a car to walk the dogs each day. Beautiful pine forests filled with little treasures of mosses, lichens and ferns. Lots of birds, ducks and raptors. Ocean life included gray and harbor seal, and harbor porpoise. This spot was by far my favorite cottage we have ever rented. I found the peace and quiet I was seeking. Some day I hope we can spend a Summer on the Maine coast, there is nothing more soul healing then the ocean.

I was able to spend every moment for 9 days with my two beautiful Dobeboys at my side. Petey ate his fill of lobster and totally enjoyed his vacation. The first night both dogs stayed with us in a hotel on the 6th floor, first experience on an elevator. They were both perfectly behaved, and I enjoyed my vacation immensely.
