My nickname as a child was Nature Girl. From a very young age, it was apparent that I was very different then my suburban peers. Most young girls played with dolls, I preferred my pets. I also loved being outside. I started going into the woods at a very young age. I was fortunate to have a wooded park just down the street, very rare for suburban LI. I spent every free moment exploring. I spent my indoor time caring for my pets, and reading books about animals. The first chance I had to leave Suburbia was when I was nineteen and I headed upstate NY for college. I immediately got my first dog, Khan. There I also met my future hubby and with him spent lots more time out in nature. We have been happily married for 27 years, raising our family of four sons, and enjoying our busy life. During the inevitable changes good and bad, that come with having lived almost five decades, there are only two things that remain constant for me, my sense of awe and wonder at being out in nature, and the companionship of a dog while out there. My latest hiking buddy is Petey. Here I share our daily ramblings.
